I loved the quality of the shorts and the big pockets. I ordered a size up (16) based on other reviews. Unfortunately, the rise was too short for me, and the shorts were too short for my comfort. I'm 5'7" and normally wear a size 14 pant. I would have tried larger pair, but they don't make a size 18. Return and refund service were excellent.
Just got these and cannot wait for "hiking in shorts" season to start in the northeast! Very comfortable and so many pockets that actually fit THINGS in them unlike many women's pockets which are designed for, I dunno, carrying paperclips or something? The length is perfect for me. I am 5'6" and it is long enough to be comfortable but short enough to avoid the "I borrowed these swimtrunks from my dad" look that many women's outdoor apparel has. The leg opening was also designed with an actual human lady body in mind, that is to say neither massive nor tight.
I would advise most people to consider sizing up and to get a good waist measurement a little below the belly button to compare to the size chart since that is about the right spot for the rise of these shorts. I used my "narrowest point" waist measurement at first and ended up needing to swap for a larger size. But, that process was delightful and fast and as someone who usually HATES dealing with returns, I found it not-at-all annoying. For reference, I wear a 14 at jcrew/ann taylor/everlane, a 12 at old navy/lands end/jcrew factory, an XL in columbia/northface, a L in REI Co-op brand and ended up needing a 16 in these.
And BIGGEST props to Teren for sending back the larger size in the same box (I could recognize the tape I used when I mailed it back) instead of wastefully using a new one!
Looking forward to the day when they add more Women's options since it seems like they have actually met a real live woman and considered what she needs and wants unlike most companies who are just like "Women? That's like a man but smaller? And they carry a purse everywhere so no pockets right?"
