I think the Campfire Puffy is as close to a perfect jacket as I’ve ever found. I am a helicopter pilot and always wear Nomex when I can for fire protection, but cold weather fire resistant clothes are a bit of a challenge. This jacket nails what I’m looking for - it’s definitely windproof, it’s very warm, and it’s waterproof. I’ve worn it working in a northwest fall/winter and it’s perfect as a stand-alone layer down to freezing. The outer layer has survived some pretty hard environments for me already so I’d say it’s durable too. Some caveats (none are dealbreakers to me):
1. The fit. It runs skinny in the waist, so I ended up having to get a larger size than I wanted to be able to layer. I wish it would have run looser in the fit knowing that in really cold environments you will have a fleece or thick wool layer underneath.
2. It is waterproof, but not like true rain gear. The water resistant coating washed off after a spin in the laundry (no surprise, easy to just reapply some) but I’m very glad that it truly has a waterproof layer somewhere in there that means even with the repellent gone, the jacket will not let moisture through it. I’ve had it drenched, weighing 30lbs due to water absorbed in the outer layer, and I’m still dry underneath. It definitely dries quick too.
3. The hood is puffy, which is awesome for warmth, but bad if you leave it off when it’s raining (it doesn’t fit over a helmet). It will absorb water and start getting the inside of the jacket wet. I wish it was storable in the collar or removable.
This is a great looking jacket and I’m really glad someone went after a Nomex jacket other than the aviation/military clothing companies. The Campfire Puffy knocks the pants off my other Nomex jackets, some of which were $750+, and none of which are waterproof *and* warm. Great job by Teren, I hope they keep going down the Nomex road.
Best pants ever
These are really nice pants and feel great.
These are my new favorite pants, I used to wear strictly prana, my friends would laugh and say that they were too baggy. Now my friends say I look tight, not sure if that means I look good or if my pants are tight, but either way I like them thanks
As advertised, and then some. Pants are flowy and cool. Plan to get more
I have several they are actually nice pants to wear to the golf course or out off-roading. They dry quickly if you get rained on and allow maximum movement.
Love the design, but until they come in a 36” inseam, I will have to wait.
Not disappointed in any way! The fit, the comfort and the look are all perfect. Have worn these traveling, to work and just casual nights out. My wife even likes them and hasn’t complained once when I put them on. I’ll definitely be buying more soon!
Sent them back to exchange for larger size, but love the fabric and design!
I bought three jackets. First off, they are very comfortable to wear. The inside liner feels great on the skin, for those of you wanting to leave home with no tshirt and just a jacket, hahaha.
If it's windy outside, no problem, you can't feel the wind through the jacket.
If it's raining outside, it's got you covered, water just beads off of it.
I can't wait to try it next summer at the campground, with the embers.
It is a very good looking jacket, I take more walks now thanks to not feeling the fall cold and wind.
I highly recommend!!!
Materials are great, jacket is warm. I have issues with the zipper for the hand pockets. Everytime I put my hands in my pockets the zippers scratch my wrist. The pocket act as hand warmer which is great but the zipper contact is a nuisance. Thinking about returning it only for that reason.
As soon as I put them on I loved them! They’re loose fitting and plenty of room where it counts! When you sit down you don’t feel anything digging into waist. Sometimes the magnet doesn’t go back together right away when you stand up, but that is not big issue. Will definitely be getting the shorts in the spring.
Love the pants!!!
Although I haven't tested the fire-resistant capabilities of this jacket, I still love how it feels putting the coat on. It is warm, lightweight, packs to a decent size, and has pockets for days. This jacket will be perfect when I travel back and forth from Montana to Alaska, and for hiking around in Montana during October/November, I wouldn't have any other jacket.
Comfortable, very light and quick to dry.
